Curry Nation: Bon Appétit at your Doorstep | Review 

Among the horde of food delivery models mushrooming in the twin city, I found this upcoming food tech startup and it really impressed me. Sitting in the comfort of my home or office, I get some amazing food delivered at my doorstep. You might say,no big deal, that is what they are supposed to do. But remember how many times you have cursed your dabbawalla for sending the same monotonous dabba with very few options on offer.  The USP of this model is the very basic element that keeps the customers happy and that is the food quality.  I have been trying out various dishes, set meals & wraps for the past one month before I came with this product review. Every single time I was truly impressed with what they delivered.

I happened to come across a review posted by a friend about a food tech startup which delivers food at your doorstep. So I checked for Curry Nation’s Facebook page and ordered a Non Vegetarian set meal for my lunch.

On placing the order I got a confirmation message confirming the same. I was assured my food will be delivered in 45 minutes time and I was eager to see if they lived up to their promise. Once the food was out for delivery, I received a message informing me the name and contact details of the delivery boy. Exactly 50 minutes later I received my package.

This was certainly one of the best packaging I have seen in recent times. A neatly packed set box meal with a very innovative packaging, beautifully packed set of cutlery & condiments provided separately gives an instant feeling that this is not the regular dabbawala service that we are used to. Curry Nation has certainly raised the bar.

Packaging and delivery time will be of no use until the food doesn’t click the taste buds of the customers. Most of you would agree that it is not a great idea to have a heavy, oily lunch as it affects your productivity for the remaining day, especially during weekdays.  This set meal was of my liking, non-greasy, absolutely perfect portions and very similar to home cooked food.

The box included:

• 2 Chapati
• Rice- 1 Portion
• Chicken Curry
• Dal
• 1 Vegetarian Curry
• Fried Potato Chips
• Pickle
• Salad
• Sweet Curd

The packaging ensured that my food was hot when I opened it. Since the star of this dish was the chicken curry, let me shed more light on the curry. A very simple, home style curry which would make you feel a lot closer to your mum’s kitchen. Not a thick gravy  and the subtle use of masalas gives this dish its unmistakable, not-too-rich, subtly sweet, warm and spicy flavor.

I loved the grated potato chips which is something that I have not seen in any of the dabbas delivered to me so far. The guys at Curry Nation have managed to tick all the boxes.

Over the past one month I have ordered a few more dishes like Mutton Dum Bukhara Biryani, Hakka Noodles, Schezwan Paneer, Wraps & Mutton Curry.

I was not particularly impressed with the mutton as I felt the mutton could have been a lot more tender the masala seemed to be under cooked.  However the Dum Bukhara Mutton Biryani could give some established restaurants in the city a run for their money. One of the best biryanis I have had in the twin city. I loved the biryani box but I believe there is scope of improvement in packaging of biryani since it is not convenient to eat biryani in a box.

The Chinese dishes are also a must try but again I would reduce a point in terms of packaging. For example if I order hakka noodles and schezwan paneer(a gravy dish) and both the dishes are packed in the same box then this sort of packing doesn’t let me enjoy my noodles and its also a messy affair.

Last week I tried three other dishes from Curry Nation and I was truly impressed by the quality of the food delivered. The very humble Curd Rice is a sheer delight. Subtle and delicate, it was a refreshing change in my routine. Chicken Vindaloo, the Konkani dish was beautifully replicated in this part of the world. Curry Nation did absolute justice to this amazing dish.

Now I am eagerly looking to try out the Laal Maans and Mutton Nihari from   the kitchen of Curry Nation and I hope they are not going to disappoint this massive Mutton Nihari Lover.
